Lloyd 1746 County Formation Granville County formed from Edgecombe County. 1758 Granville Tax List James Loyde (with Ambrose) is listed in James Paine’s district between Charles Johnson (listed with ten persons who were presumably slaves) and David King. 1758 Granville Tax List James Loyd listed as delinquent for the year 1758 by Phil. Hawkins, late Sheriff, with note “R way” presumably meaning “ran away.” October 3, 1771 Granville Militia List Isaac Loyde listed in Capt. Jonathan Kitrell's Company Company of the 1771 Granville County Militia. See Walter Clark's "The State Records," Vol. 22, page 166. Circa 1776 According to Revolutionary War pension papers, Samuel Loyd (who was born in Essex County, Virginia, and died in Decatur in 1833 at the age of 86) lived in Wake County, NC at the time of the Revolution. According to those same pension papers, Samuel had a son by the name of James who moved with his father ultimately to Indiana. June 15, 1781 Isaac Loyd sold Mark White 106 acres on the branches of Ruin Creek. September 15 1781 Isaac Loyd conveyed 100 acres along Ruin Creek to William Loyd. 1804 1804 Wake County Will Book 6 shows Valentine Loyd as one of the buyers named in the estate sale for James Joplin. 1811 Wake County Court Minutes "Voluntine Loyd R." was on the list of Insolvents returned to Court and allowed. 1814 According to Johnson Loyd’s Pension Records (Old War WF-#12140), Johnson Loyd and Edward White of Wake County, N.C. were drafted at the same time in 1814 and went to Norfolk, Virginia together under Capt. John Green commanded by Col. McDaniel. Edward and Johnson served together for about three months and ten days after which Johnson died in Norfolk of disease contracted while in service. An affidavit in the pension files lists the following as children of Johnson Loyd and his widow Elizabeth Langford Loyd: Mary Loyd, Elizabeth Loyd, Isaac Loyd, John Loyd, Henry Loyd, Turner Loyd, Joshua Loyd, Mariah Loyd and Julia Loyd. 1816-1817 Johnson Loyd is referenced in at least two places in the Wake County Will Books. There was an order on July 16, 1816 dealing with payment of the administrator Jubilee (sp?) Rogers and with the widow and family's year's support. On August 1817, an inventory was taken as follows: one feather bed and furniture, 4 sitting chairs, 1 basin and plate (sp?), 1 pot, 1 chest, 1 table, 1 barrel, 1 spelling book, $19.66 received of Willy Whitaker for his services at Norfolk as a soldier. Aug. 1817 Wake Court Order Valentine Loyd was exempted from poll tax for an illegible reason. July 31, 1828 "Star" Obituary for an Isaac Loyd who died in Louisburg, Franklin County, NC "on Sunday last." 1830 Franklin Will Book Turner Loyd and Isaac Crowder are buyers in the February 18, 1830 estate sale for Benjamin Morgan. 1838 & 1839 Transfers (Granville Court Minutes) Nov. 1838: Valentine Loyd acknowledged a deed to Thomas Ray et al. for 357 acres. Feb. 1839: Valentine Loyd deed 78 acres to Obediah Sowell. Proved by John Thompson. 1840s Granville School Censuses John Loyd listed having Eliza Loyd, James Loyd and William Loyd in Beaverdam. William Loyd is listed having Samuel Loyd, Susan Loyd, John Loyd and James Loyd in Henderson. Lewis Loyd is listed having Marth Ann Loyd in Henderson. He has one horse (valued at $75.00), three cattle (valued at $18), and ten hogs (valued at $15) with his total real and person property valued at $108.00. He owed state taxes of $1.32 and County taxes of $1.33 and a special state tax for the Ashevill Turnpike Company of 18 cents with total taxes of $2.83.
