THIS INDENTURE made the twenty fourth day of September in the year of our Lord 
Christ one thousand seven hundred and sixty one between William Graves and Mary 
his wife of Granville County in the Province of North Carolina of the one Part 
and John Pardue late of the County of Amelia in the Colony of Virginia of the 
other part witnesseth that they the said William Graves and Mary his wife for 
and in consideration of the sum of one hundred and seventy pounds current money 
of Virginia to them in hand paid by the said John Pardue at and before the 
ensealing and delivery of these presents the receipt whereof they the said 
William Graves and Mary his wife doth hereby acknowledge and themselves 
wherewith fully satisfied hath given granted bargained and sold, aliened, 
released and confirmed and by these presents doth give grant bargain alien, 
release and confirm unto the said John Pardue one certain tract or parcel of 
land situated, lying and being in Granville County aforesaid on both sides 
Owen's Creek containing by estimation three hundred and eighty six acres be the 
same more or less and bounded as followeth to wit; Beginning at Hackney's 
corner a red oak in Governor Johnson's line then running by the Governor's line 
South forty five degrees East ninety poles to a hickory thence East one hundred 
and ninety four poles by Ballard's line to a black jack thence North two 
hundred and fifty six poles by Kimbal's line to a poplar on Owen's Creek thence 
West two hundred and fifty seven poles crossing the said creek to a white oak 
in Hackney's thence by his line to the beginning with all woods and or wood 
trees (---?) water courses profits hereditaments commodities whatsoever to the 
same belonging or in any wise appertaining thereto together with the reversion 
and reversions remained or remainders rents and issues and all the estate right 
title interest claim and demand whatsover of them the said William Graves and 
Mary his wife have or ought to have thereto have and to hold the aforesaid 
granted and bargained and promises unto the said John Pardue his heirs and 
assigns forever and he the said William Graves and Mary his wife doth covenant 
and grant to and with him the said John Pardue that he the said John Pardue his 
heirs and assigns forever hereafter peaceable and quietly have hold occupy and 
possess and enjoy the aforesaid granted and bargained premises wihout the 
disturbances molestation or eviction of them the said William Graves and Mary 
his wife their heirs assigns forever and they the said William Graves and Mary 
his wife doth by these presents warrant and defend the aforesaid granted and 
bargained premises unto the said John Pardue free and clear from all 
encumbrances of what nature or kind so ever and whatsoever. In Witness whereof 
they the said William Graves and Mary his wife hereunto set their hands and 
affixed their seals the day and year above written.

Memorandum that on the twenty forth day of September one thousand seven hundred 
and sixty one quiet and peaceable possession of the within mentioned land and 
premises was given by William Graves and Mary his wife to John Pardue the other 
covenanter to these presents in private.

At a court held for Granville County February 9, 1762 William Graves 
acknowledges this deed with the endorsement to be his acts and deed and on 
motion they were ordered to be Registered.
