Granville County, NC - Thomas Hilliard Revolutionary War Pension ~~~~~~~~~~ April 12, 1934 The Quartermaster General Memorial Branch War Department Washington, DC Dear Sir: Reference is made to your request for the Revolutionary War record of Thomas Hilliard. The data furnished herein were obtained from the papers on file in pension claim S.9576 based upon the Revolutionary War service of Thomas Hilliard. He was born in New Kent County, Virginia and when quite young moved with his parents to Granville County, North Carolina; the date of his birth and names of parents are not given. While residing in Granville County, Thomas Hilliard enlisted and served as a private with the North Carolina Troops, as follows: from February 1779, three months in Captain Smith's company; from January 1781, three months in Captain Gideon Gooch's company, Colonel Long's regiment. He was allowed pension on his application executed August 27, 1832, then aged about seventy years and living in Warren County, North Carolina. The application for headstone dated April 13, 1927 and one dated April 3, 1934, both for Thomas Hilliard, also a letter from Mrs. T.J. Miles, dated March 31, 1934, addressed to Quartermaster General, U.S. Army, Washington, DC, are all returned herewith. Very Truly yours, A.D.
