Granville County, NC - James & Ann McDaniel Revolutionary War Pension, 1852 ~~~~~~~~~~ May 4, 1936 Mr. James A. Patillo Perdyne Arkansas Dear Sir: Reference is made to your letter in which you request the Revolutionary War record under Widow's File 8447. This is a claim for pension based upon service of a James McDaniel whose record it is presumed you desire. You did not give the name of the soldier. The papers in that claim have been examined and the following data found. James McDaniel was born January 27, 1762. The place of his birth and the names of his parents are not shown. His father was living during the Revolution. While residing in Granville County, North Carolina James McDaniel enlisted, date not given, for nine months in Captain Blount's Company, North Carolina Troops. Several months after the termination of this service and very soon after he was eighteen years of age he was called into service and was in a number of tours, dates are not given, and the only names of officers that are shown are Captain Long and Colonel Taylor; he was in a number of engagements, the only name of a battle that is given being Guilford Court House, after which battle he guarded wagons to Ramsey's Mill. It was stated that after the Revolution, he was appointed captain of a militia company in North Carolina in recognition of his services in the Revolution. In 1800 he moved to Marlborough District, South Carolina, where he died September 27, 1839. The soldier married June 4, 1790 in Granville County, North Carolina, Ann or Nancy Rogers, who was born March 4, 1774. The place of her birth and the names of her parents are not shown. The marriage license was obtained from the clerk of the court of said Granville County on May 24, 1790. Ann, widow of James McDaniel, was allowed pension on her application executed April 16, 1852 while residing in Marlborough District, South Carolina. She signed by mark, Ann, and was so pensioned. She died May 18, 1865 at the home of her daughter Rachel Thomas and her husband Philip S. Thomas in Sumter District, South Carolina, where she had resided since January 1, 1855.
