Granville County, NC – John Taylor Sr. Revolutionary War Pension ~~~~~~~~~~ Mrs. B.A. Taylor Edgewood Dalton, Georgia Madam: I advise you from the papers in the Revolutionary War pension claim S.7684, it appears that John Taylor, Senior, was born December 4, 1756 in Virginia, place not stated. At the age of ten years he moved with his parents to Mecklenburg County, Virginia and lived there until 1777 when he moved to Granville County, North Carolina. While a resident of Granville County, NC he enlisted in 1778 and served five months as a private under Lieutenant Pleasant Henderson in Colonel Lytle’s North Carolina Regiment. In August 1780 he enlisted and served four months as a private in Colonels Phil Taylor’s and Davie’s North Carolina regiments. Shortly afterward in 1781, he enlisted and served two months as captain in Colonel Davie’s North Carolina Regiment and was in several skirmishes with the Hessians and Tories. In addition to the above, he served eighteen months as an assistant in the commissary department of General Davie. He was allowed pension on his application executed December 25, 1832 while a resident of Granville County, NC. He died April 23, 1837. The name of the soldier’s wife is not given; his son, John C. Taylor was a resident of Granville County, NC in 1852; there are no further data as to children. The above noted John Taylor is the only soldier by that name of Granville County, NC on the Revolutionary War records of this bureau. Said records fail to afford any information in regard to Robert Taylor and Joshua Taylor as described by you. Respectfully, Winfield Scott Commissioner [hand written at bottom: Soldiers brothers, Richard, Lewis and Edward are referred to as having served in the Rev] Source: HeritageQuest Online ______________________________________________________________________ Copyright.
