Edenton Gazette Tuesday, Dec. 24, 1811 December 24, 1811
   WILLIAM HAWKINS, ESQ., of Granville, Speaker of the House of Commons, was, 
on Friday, elected Governor of the State. The votes on the second ballot were 
HAWKINS, 97; MEBANE, 62, scattering, 18.
