Will of James Knott, Granville Co., NC. Written 1781 WILL OF JAMES KNOTT OF GRANVILLE COUNTY, NC Transcribed by Carolyn Burgess Knott The following will is that of James Knott. Will was written August 13, 1781. Proven November 5, 1783, Granville County North Carolina. (He was the father of John Knott, b. 1734 or 1740; will written, December 5,1798.) In the name of God amen. I James Knott of Granville County in the state of North Carolina being of perfect mind and sound memory thanks be given to almighty God for the same and calling to mind that it is appointed for all men must die do constitute, appoint and ordain this my last will and testament as follows and first of all I recommend my Soul to God that give it nothing doubting but at the general resurrection I shall receive it again by the mighty power of God and as for my worldly goods and estate as it hath pleased God to help me with I give, dispose of in manner and form following,?? I give and bequeath to my son John Knott his heirs or assigns forever one negro girl named Barbara. Item. I give and bequeath to my son David Knott to him his heirs or assigns forever all that tract of land whereon I now live containing three hundred and ten acres more or less and one negro woman named Rose and her children Mima and Milla Hannah provided he the said David doth take care of and maintain his Mother Mary Knott during her life. Item. I give to my daughter Elizabeth Gallimore to her heirs and assigns forever one copper shill. And lastly I leave the rest of my estate to be sold and the money arising from such sale to be equally divided among all my children and do hereby constitute and appoint my son John Knott and my son David Knott my exc. of this my last will and testament in witness thereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this thirteenth day of August in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and eighty one.
