Original Will of Edmon[d] Jones

Dated 23 JAN 1782, Proved November Court, 1782


In the Name of God Amen, I Edmon Jones of Granville County & 
State of North Carolina being weak and low in body but of perfect 
memory do make & ordain this my last will and testament in manner
and form following, to wit:

I first & foremost my will & desire is that all my lawful debts should 
be paid by my executors hereafter mentioned & my will & desire is 
that my land in Caswell County should be sold to pay the aforesaid 
debts.

Secondly all the rest of my estate I lend to my loving wife Sarah
Jones during her life or widowhood, and at her death or marriage 
my will & desire is that all my estate both real and personal should 
be equally divided among all my children then living.

I also appoint my father-in-law John Pettypool & my loving friend 
Moses Streat executors of this my last will and testament.

In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand & seal this 23rd 
day of January in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred 
and eighty-two.

Proved by oaths of Robert Sandford and Sarah Pettipool 
November 1782.  John Pettipool and Moses Streat qualified 
as executors.

NB:  This Edmond Jones is probably the son of James Jones, 
one of the five brothers who came to Mecklenburg/Granville area.  
Edmond Jones is named in the will of Robert Jones 
(Mecklenburg Co., VA: 1771) as nephew, son of brother James Jones.
