NC - Will of Gideon Macon, 1761 Submitted by: Dolores Samons Harvell The following Will was found at the Archieves in Raleigh, NC. dsh 5/2000 WILL OF GIDEON MACON 20 DECEMBER 1761 In the Name of God Amen I Gideon Macon of County Granville and province of North Carolina being (sick)- - - and ( - - - of a sound and disposing mind and memory, Thanks be to almighty(?) For the shame, calling to mind the uncertain time of certain(?) Do make this my last will - (and testament)- - - - - in manner - - - following that is to say first I bequeath my soul to God that - - - - - - it - - - in the - - - and mediatorship(?) Of my Ever Blessed Lord and Savior Christ for remission of all my past offences, and Body I commit to the earth to be decently interred at the discretion of my e---- - - after mentioned and as to such worldly estate which hath pleased almighty God to bestow on me I give and dispose there of as follows, to wit. Imprimis (?), Item - I give and bequeath to my son Harrison Macon some f^× hundred acres of land by - ,, the North side of Tar River, to him and his heirs forever. Item - I give and bequeath to my son John Macon all that part of my tract of land lying and being on both sides of Thomas(?) Creek below the Courthouse Road, to him and his heirs forever. Item - I give and bequeath to my son, Nathaniel Macon all the remainder part of the above said tract of land lying and being on both sides of Thomas Creek and above the said Courthouse Road. I like envise give to my said son, five hundred acres of land, lying and being on both sides of Hobquarters Creek. I like envise give to my said son, my - - - tools at the deceased of my loving wife, Priscilla Macon, to him and his heirs forever. Item - I give and bequeath to my son Gideon Macon all my land and plantation not - -, to him and his heirs forever. Item - My wish and desire is that - - - of my above mentioned sons, Harrison, John, Nathaniel or Gideon - - - die without - - fully begotten of their bodies that then my desire is the aforementioned tract or tracts of land shall be equally divided between my said sons that shall be then living. Item - I give and bequeath to my daughter, Ann Allstone, four Negroes (names?) that she has already in her possession, to be hers and her heirs forever. Item - I give and bequeath to my daughter, Oakley (?) ---, following Negroes to wit; Will, Ben, and Dinah, to her and her heirs forever. Item - I give and bequeath to my daughter, Martha Macon, the three following Negroes; to wit Jacob, Jemmy and Tabb, to her and her heirs forever. 2 - Will of Gideon Macon Item - I give and bequeath to my daughter Mary Macon, three Negroes, to wit; Harry, Robin and Darcius, to her and her heirs forever. Item - I give and bequeath to my son Harrison Macon, two Negroes boys to wit; Stephen and Terry and one Negro named Nan---, to him and his heirs forever. Item - I give and bequeath to my son John Macon, two Negro boys names Peter and Gloster (?) And one Negro girl named Lydia, to him and his heirs forever. Item - I give and bequeath to my son Nathaniel Macon, two Negro boys named George and Bobb and one Negro girl named Lucy, to him and his heirs forever. Item - I give and bequeath to my son Gideon Macon, two Negro boys named Sam and Toney and one Negro girl named Phoebe, to him and his heirs forever. Item - I give and bequeath to my loving wife, Priscilla Macon during her natural life the rest of my Manor Plantation with the following Negroes; to wit, Tom, Mingo, Bett, Jenney, Patt, and Aggery and after her deceased these two Negroes to be equally divided in quantity and quality between my seven - - children. Item - My Will and Desire is that each of my said seven children as fast as they shall arrive to lawful age that then they receive the one eighth part of all my stock and household furniture of what nature or mind soever. Item - My Will and Desire is that my loving wife shall have and receive the profits of each of my said children's legacies until they arrive to lawful age to receive them, towards the support and maintenance of my said children. Item - I constitute and appoint my loving wife Priscilla Macon, Executive and my son-in-law, John Allstone with William Johnson - - this my last Will and Testament .
