"Our family Bible is owned by a cousin here in Durham and I am able to give you some data as far back as I can go. The original Cuningham was Cuningham. Jesse Cuninggim was born in 1772 and died in 1836. He married Polly Moore who was born in 1774. From this union were born two sons and four daughters... Their names and spouses follow: William Henry Cuninggim md Edith Gibbons (Miss Griffin's grandparents) Isaac Cuninggim never married Elizabeth md James Jones Nancy md Benjamin Sugg Sarah md Henry Grainger Sarah and Henry Grainger had a son Jesse Willis Grainger who md Sallie Lucretia Coward and they had a daughter Capitola Coward Grainger who md Daniel Thomas Edwards ---- NOTES: The Grainger line is proven as it was one of the most prominent families in Kinston. William Henry was born 5 August 1804, died 22 September 1874 and is buried at Rainbow Church in Greene County. His wife, Edith Gibbons was born 28 January 1800 and d 12 May 1865 and is also buried at Rainbow. (mmm)
