S., was the youngest son of Captain John Murphrey (d. 1776) and Elizabeth (Harrison?) Murphrey (d. 1788) who moved to Dobbs County, NC, from south-eastern Virginia in the 1730's or 1740's. Ward was born Jan. 26, 1766 Jesse Murphrey, son of Jethro and Sarah (his first wife) was born May 27, 1777 Children of Jethro and Penelope Ward Murphrey Elizabeth - born March 23, 1783 Bramley - born Sept 6,1785 Nancy - born May 2, 1787 Polly - born August 18, 1789 Penelope - born May 22, 1791 Willis - born April 6, 1796 Bennett W. - born April 11, 1798 Louisa - born Sept. 7, 1804 Avry Murphrey wife of Willis was born Dec. 14, 1799 Avry Murphrey their daughter was born Aug. 22, 1819 Willis and Avry were married Oct. 22, 1818
