Lenoir County, NC - Documents File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by Martha Mewborn Marble Peggy Mewborn Briley EMILY LOFTIN COLLECTION Emily Loftin died in Morehead, NC with no direct heirs and her papers were donated to the Carteret County Historical Society in Morehead. She was the daughter of Dr. Preston B. Loftin and his wife Annie Laughinghouse. There are some forty or so boxes in the Collection, most not genealogical or historical in nature. At the time I went through this Collection, the Society had everything in storage in preparation of moving into their new museum. Despite difficult circumstances, Jack Goodwin, Director of the museum, pulled several boxes that he could find for us to go through. He thought this was all that contained old records, but I am inclined to think there might be more. There are a number of original documents mostly Pitt or Wayne Counties with a few for Lenoir County but only those for Lenoir were abstracted along with two Wills, Simon Bright IV and Susan Harper, posted separately. Most of the papers are for the Bright, Pugh and Laughinghouse families of Pitt County. The Pugh Box was gone through in detail because of our interest in the family and some notes were made. There are hundreds of small receipts in the Collection mostly related to the estate of Lewis Bryan Pugh and Richard F. Bright. Those receipts were looked at and notes made when warranted. LOFTIN PAPERS BOX BEFORE 1870 SAMUEL LOFTIN FOLDER Almost all of the papers were for Wayne County with a few exceptions. A partial copy of the Will of SIMON BRIGHT IV was found and is posted on the Lenoir County GenWeb Archives Some of the below are abstracts of Lenoir County and some notes taken from documents from Pitt County AGREEMENT 26 March 1836 - Lenoir County - MARY SMITH and ELIZABETH WETHERINGTON to MATHEW (sic) JOURDAN - MARY SMITH formerly MARY FISH and ELIZABETH WETHERINGTON formerly ELIZABETH FISH and WILLIAMS (sic) JOURDAN enter into an agreement - $25 - our part of estate of late JOHN FISH, dec Both signed with a Mark WIT MATHEW JOURDAN, JOHN JOURDAN To Court April 1837 - LEWIS C.
