Greene County, NC - Whitley Cemetery ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ WHITLEY CEMETERY This cemetery was not included in the Cemetery Survey The Whitley Family Cemetery at "Whitley Place" was located in Greene Co. on route 123 N in a field between Maury Ballpark Street and Rory Drive, and .2 mile east of the 123 N highway. The Whitley Family Cemetery was moved from that location on February 6, 2002 to Greenwood Cemetery in Greenville, N.C. by Whitley descendants. The Whitley Family Cemetery included the following graves: 1. Jordan Whitley Father of William Whitley Age: 55 years Died: April 1862 Devoted husband of Rachel Whitley 2. William Whitley Father of Lula S. & Cordelia Whitley b. Sept. 16, 1832 d. Jan. 15, 1865 CSA PVT CO C 1ST BATT NC LOCAL DEF TRPS (Note: Daughter Lula Susan Whitley, b. Aug. 23, 1862, married Louis Allen Mayo of Pitt County on Dec. 20, 1886. She died of influenza in Pitt Co. on Sept. 16, 1918. Her grave in Pitt Co. has also been relocated to Greenwood Cemetery Greenville, NC.) 3. Harriet Rasberry Whitley Sylivant Wife of William Whitley b. Aug 2, 1836 d. Aug 3, 1873 Daughter of Benjamin & Cordelia Rasberry (Note: After William Whitley's untimely death in 1865, Harriet Rasberry Whitley remarried to John B. Sylivant and died in child birth in 1873. John Sylivant chose to bury Harriet beside her first husband, William Whitley, at "Whitley Place.") 4. Nancy Ann Cordelia Whitley Ormond Wife of James William Ormond b. June 3, 1858 d. July 28, 1918 (Note: Husband James William Ormond, was the son of Merritt Ormond and Eliza B. Hooker. James and Cordelia Ormond had children: Lilly, Harriet, William M. and Daniel J. Ormond.) 5. Unmarked grave of child of Cordelia Whitley and James W. Ormond 6. Unnamed girl b. Oct. 26, 1887 d. Oct. 26, 1887 Only lived 10 hours Daughter of Louis Allen and Lula Susan Whitley Mayo 7. Lula Maybelle Mayo b. June 20, 1893 d. June 20, 1893 Daughter of Louis Allen and Lula Susan Whitley Mayo (Note: Other children of Louis Allen Mayo and Lula Susan Whitley Mayo were buried on the Mayo Farm in Pitt Co., NC, and have also been moved to Greenwood Cemetery in Greenville, NC. ___________________________________________________________________ Copyright.
