Greene County, NC - Eason vs Pettway, 1820 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 2131 EASON vs PETTWAY To be posted on Greene and Edgecombe Theophilus Eason vs William D Pettway – Greene County – Greene Co Court in 1820 and moved to Pitt Co in Sept 1827 – also a Court in March 1825 NOTE: There is a reference to Saunders vs Gattling and also case #2130 but time did not permit a look at those cases this trip. This case is really not clear so the other two cases might clear up the questions. William D. Pettway lived in Edgecombe County – this was a case of trespass to the damage of $500 – Eason was bound as surity of one Henry Brownrigg on 2 notes, one to Gray Little for $100 – Brownrigg was embarrassed at his circumstances and could not pay the notes – Pettway was the acting constable for Edgecombe Co – the case was regarding two lots in Stantonsburg – on 13 Dec 1824 they were the property of Brownrigg who sold the lots which was more than enough to pay the debts – Brownrigg was insolvent and didn’t own anything else – Pettway was the principal debtor and Eason was the security – Eason wanted the land condemned – it appears that when the lots were sold, Elijah Price purchased them. ___________________________________________________________________ Copyright.
