They were the children of Catherine Arendell (ca 1785-ca1835), the daughter of William Arendell (will dated 1822) of Lenoir County. Catherine married first Edward Hodges (d. ca 1820), believed (but not proved) to be the son of Richard Hodges (d. bef. 1805) of the Wheat Swamp region Greene County, and second Travis Brown (d. bef. 1830).
