Mason http://www.genrecords.net/emailregistry/vols/00022.html#0005225 February 11, 2024, 3:27 pm Source: Freedmen's Bureau Written: 1866 Transcribed by Sloan Mason slomas7@comcast.net Greene Co., NC U.S., Freedmen's Bureau Records, 1865-1878 Assistant Commissioner M843 35 The Bureau of Refugees, Freedmen, and Abandoned Lands 20 March 1866 Moses JOYNER INDENTURE OF APPRENTICESHIP State of North Carolina Greene County This Indenture, Made this 20th day of March 1866 between The Bureau of Refugees, Freedmen, and Abandoned Lands of the one part, and Moses JOYNER of the other part: Witnesseth, That the said Bureau of Refugees, Freedmen, and Abandoned Lands doth put, place and bind unto the said Moses JOYNER, Two orphan, named Rose JOYNER aged 4 years, to receive as stated below, Seventy five Dollars, Calvin JOYNER aged 2 years to receive Seventy five Dollars. to live after the manner of an apprentice and servant, until the said apprentice shall attain the age of twenty-one years: during all which time the said apprentice their master faithfully shall serve, and his lawful commands everywhere obey. And the said Moses HARPER doth covenant, and promise, and agree, that he will teach and instruct the said apprentice, or cause them to be taught and instructed, to read and write; and that he will constantly find and provide for said apprentice, during the term aforesaid, sufficient diet, washing lodging and apparel, fitting for an apprentice; and also all other things necessary, both in sickness and in health; and at the expiration of said apprenticeship, shall pay to the said children the amount of money set opposite their names, a suit of new clothes, and a new Bible.
