D. SPENCE & wife to A. B. LANE all of Greene Co., NC 1 June 1878 North Carolina Greene County This Indenture made this the first day of June, A. D. 1878 between W. D. SPENCE & wife Mary C. & Wm. L. RANDOLPH & wife Julia F. of the first part & Angelina B. LANE of the second part, all of the county & State above written. Witnesseth that the parties of the first part for & in consideration of the sum of One Dollar to them in hand paid, the receipt whereof is duly acknowledged have & by these presents do & forever quit claim & convey & confirm unto the said party of the second part, her heirs & assigns, the following tracts of land which by this deed of division allowed to her & heirs & assigns, the following tracts of land which by this deed of division allowed to her heirs & assigns: to wit, beginning at a stake on the road side, W. D. SPENCE’S corner runs with SPENCE’S line, S 78 W 22.55 chains to a stake, the N 3 W 14.68 chains a stake in the edge of the roadside, then with the road N 78 3/4 E 936 chains, N 72 1/4 E 924 chains to the — of the roads, then S 16 E (with the road) 1524 chains beginning, containing Thirty (30) acres more or less. The School House Lot not excepted, which —————————————————————————————————————— at a large dead pine on the road, SPENCE’S & BRYAN’S corner & runs then nearly with the road S 37 E 21.75 chains to a large red oak, not marked, on the Southside of the road, then S 87 E 17.92 chains to a stake in the head of the South prong of the South prong of SELLARS branch; then down the meanders of said branch to a stake, Daniel ARTIS’S corner, then with the path N 27 E 1680 chains N 52 1/4 E 7.26 chains to a stake in the path on the run of SELLARS’ Branch, RANDOLPH & SPENCE’S corner, then up the various courses of the same to the first station, containing One Hundred & Forty & three fourth (140 3/4 a 16 P) acres & Sixteen Poles, more or less. To have & to hold unto her the said party of the second part, her heirs & assigns in Fee Simple to their proper use & behoof the above mentioned lots of land, the School House Lot being herein excepted, & for the consideration of the premises, we the parties of the first part for ourselves, our heirs & assigns, do hereby release & forever quit claim all our right title & interest we the aforesaid land, & will warrant & defend the title to the same unto her, the said party of the second part, her heirs & assigns, against the lawful claims of all persons whatsoever. And the parties of the first part further covenant & that they have full right & power to convey the same in Fee Simple. RANDOLPH & wife Juliea F. & acknowledged the due execution of the forgoing deed of conveyance & the said Mary C. SPENCE & Julia F. RANDOLPH, being by me privately examined separate & apart from their said husbands, touching their voluntary consent thereto, doth state that they signed the same freely, voluntarily, & without fear or compulsion of their said husbands so to other persons they doth still assert thereto —————————— the 5th day of February ——————— John W.
