LANE to Julie F. RANDOLPH of Greene County, NC 1 June 1878 This Indenture made this the 1st day of June between W. D. SPENCE & wife Mary C. SPENCE & Angelina B. LANE of Greene County of the first part & Julia F. RANDOLPH, wife of Wm. L. RANDOLPH of Greene County of the second part, all of the State above written; Witness that the parties of the first part for & in consideration of the sum of One Dollar to return in his the receipt whereof is hereby duly acknowledged in full, have & do hereby duly acknowledged in full, have & do hereby give, grant convey & confirm unto the said party of the second part her heirs & assigns, the following described lands to wit: beginning at a stake in the road leading to Speight’s Bridge in Wm. FAIRCLOTH’S line, near a Red Oak corner & runs then with said HAIRCLOTHS line, S 17 1/2 E near 58.60 chains to a sweet gum on runoff SELLARS Branch, Wm. FAIRCLOTH’S corner, then up the meanders of the same to a black gum up the fork of the North & South prong of SELLAR’S corner then nearly with the North prong of said branch along an agreed line N59 3/4 W 988 chains to the maples, then N 27 1/2 W510 chains to a cypress then North 3 1/4 W 432 chains to a gum, then N 9 W 33 chains to a sweet gum not he run of SELLAR’S branch or Hill Run, & runs up the meanders of the same to a stake in a path, Mrs. W. D. SPENCE’S corner then with the said path to the road leading to Speights’ Bridge, then with the same to the first station, containing one hundred eighty one acres, more or less. Also another tract of land bounded as follows beginning at a stake in the road side SPENCE’S corner & runs with his line S 3 E 17.90 chains to a — then W 88 W 16.78 chains to a stake in the edge of the Bull Head Road, then with the same N 14 1/4 E 17.13 chains to the cross roads, then with the Seight’s Bridge Road N 87 1/4 E 11.32 chains to the first station, containing Twenty-nine (29) acres, more or less. To have & to hold unto her the party of the second part, her heirs & assigns in fee simple, the aforesaid lands to their proper use & behoof, free & clear from all encumbrances whatsoever and for the consideration of the premises, we, the parties of the first part, for ourselves, our heirs, & assigns, do hereby release & forever quit claim all our right, title & interest in the said lands & will warrant & defend the title to the same unto the party of the second part, her heirs & assigns against the lawful claims of all persons whatsoever, & the parties of the first part further covenant & agree that they have full right & power to convey the same in Fee Simple. SPENCE being by me privately examined, separate & apart from her said husband, doth state that she signed, the same freely, voluntarily & of her own accord & without fear or compulsion of her said husband or any one else & that she doth still assent thereto.
