My health has not been good since I was brought to this place, but is better I could have expected it to be. It is so much colder here than in our country, that I thought I could not stand it, but I find that it is not as great an inconvenience as I expected. The rheumatism troubles me a great deal. I received a letter from George Owens a few days ago - he said Stephen Rogers was dead. Have you had any news from the Regiment since we were captured? I have not had a line from Dixie yet. I am anxious to hear from home. I found several acquaintances here, and can spend my time very agreeably under the circumstances. I must say however that I am awfully tired of prison life. I hope these times will not last much longer. Respass and Herring are here. Give my respects to Jesse, John, and Remy and write to me soon. Direct to Capt. W.A. Darden Fort Delaware, Division 32, Care of Capt G. W. Abe. A.A.A. Genl. Your Friend & C, W. A. Darden Additional Comments: Transcription of a letter written by W. A. Darden, Jr. (1836-1890) while he was POW during the Civil War. He was captured at Ft. Harrison, outside of Richmond in September 1864.
