Detailed as a shoemaker during much of the war. Reported on duty with Company B, 2nd Battalion Virginia Infantry (Local Defense) in June, 1863, and July, 1864. Deserted to the enemy on or about December 27, 1864. Confined at Washington, DC, until released on or about January 3, 1865, after taking the Oath of Allegiance.
