Actual copy of Proof of Service State of North Carolina} Secretary of State’s Office} I William Hill Secretary of State in and for the State of North Carolina do hereby certify that it appears from the musterrolls the Continental line of this State in the revolutionary War, that Richard Hill a private Soldier in Capt Brevard’s Company of the 10th Regiment enlisted in the year 1781 for the term of twelve months, and left the service on the 12 day of April 1782. Given under my hand this 20th Day of August 1843 Wm. Hill DECLARATION - an abstract by Ima Eula Mewborn Declaration was made in Johnston County, North Carolina by Nancy Hill who states she is a daughter of Richard Hill and his wife, Easther Hill: that the said Richard Hill was a soldier of the Revolutionary War that she has heard him speak of his being in service that he then resided in Glasgow now the County of Greene: that it appears from the register of ages in a book, entitled Articles of Barth (?) which declarant states was born in June 1763 died 20 March 1833, being age 70 and that Easther Hill was the wife of said ---- Said Richard Hill when married, declarant cannot state but he relies on the testimony of Mary Sugg upon the registry of the age of Drury or Drewry Hill who was born Dec. 2, 1790 and who was the oldest child of said Richard and Esther Hill, and that Easther Hill wife of and widow of said Richard died June 2, 1842, never having married again after death of her husband. That Richard and Easther Hill had fourteen children, all now living to wit: Polly Dixon widow of Benjamin Dixon, Alred Hill, Nancy the wife of declarant John Dixon, Penny married to Needham Waters, Martha Hill, Henry Hill, Elizabeth married Bryant Tindal, Avery married to William Farmer, Smitha married to John Hill, Richard Hill, John D. Hill, and Easther married to Henry Sugg. Declarant swears his mother-in-law Easther Hill did not apply for her pension during her life ---- One place in the declaration it is shown that Nancy Hill made same, but John Dixon signed same 1843 Nov 9 which who I suppose was her husband.
