Yesterday (Friday) when Mr. Dixon, the fusion sheriff, went to Goldsboro, Mr. B. W. Edwards, the Democratic sheriff, with about ten men, broke in the jail and took possession and compelled Mr. W. E. Murphrey, the fusion register of deeds, who had his office in the jail, to get out. The door of the jail was broken open with axes and sledge hammers.
