Weekly Standard, Raleigh, N.C. June 8, 1859 Died- In Greene county, on the 16th ult., after a short but very severe illness, Mr. Jusius G. Daniel, aged about 50 years. Thus has the cold and relentless monster invaded our midst, and bereft an affectionate wife of a devoted husband, five children of a fond and provident father, his servants of a kind and humane master, and a large circle of relatives and friends a valued kinsman and associate. We shall not, however, indulge in fulsome adulation, as those who knew him best will attest his many noble traits whilst living, and can alone feel the great loss which they have sustained in his death. "Verily, we speak that we do know, and testify that we have seen." {Com. September 7, 1859 LAND FOR SALE THE SUBSCRIBER OFFERS FOR SALE HIS Land, containing 600 acres, lying on Big Contentney creek, in Greene county, N.C., six miles below Snow Hill, and one mile from Hookerton, a thriving little village, with two good schools of high grade Male and Female. 200 acres of said land is cleared and in a good state of cultivation, the balance all in woods; all good farming land. On the premises is a good two-story Dwelling-house with all other necessary out-houses. Any person wishing to buy land would do well to apply soon. Good time can be given to the purchaser. EDWARD CARMAN 36-wSt.* September 5, 1860 At the last commencement of Emory & Henry College, in Virginia, we learn that the degree of Master of Arts was conferred upon L.J. Cheely, Principal of Hookerton Male Academy, Greene County,N.C. November 7, 1860 Died- In Wayne county, Georgia, on the 6th ult., Joseph J. Hooker, Esq. The deceased was a resident of Greene county, N.C. Died- Laura Elizabeth, daughter of R.W. and A.C. Best, of Greene county, on Sunday, Oct. 21st, aged 1 year 2 months and 5 days. July 10, 1861 Badly Whipped.- The Goldsboro' Tribune says that a bound free negro man In Snowhill, Greene county, having been detected in stealing $200 from a Mrs. Cobb, was taken up and whipped so badly that he died. The parties have been bound over. May 6, 1863 Extract from a letter from Hookerton, Greene County: " There is no news; all quiet along the lines in this State. Farmers are planting large crops of corn here this year. The wheat, oat and rye crops look unusually fine, and the breadth of land seeded is larger than is ordinarily in this section." July 22, 1863 VALUABLE LAND FOR SALE. The Subscriber Offers For Sale A Tract of land in the County of Greene, North- Carolina, called BULLHEAD, fourteen miles east of Goldsborough, containing between 275 and 800 acres. The place has on it a good dwelling house, gin house, cotton screw, and other convenient and necessary buildings; also, a very good fish pond near the dwelling. MY place near the town of Snow Hill, Greene County, and 20 miles east of Goldsborough, is for sale, consisting of three hundred and fifty acres of land, about one third is cleared and under fence, with good buildings on it.
