A. Darden, Sr., was born July 12th, 1804, and died January 23rd, 1877. He was thrice married, had 7 children, only one of whom survived him; was a member of the Methodist Church for 35 years, a man of strong faith, generous heart and pure character; an affectionate friend of Methodist preachers, and a liberal and devoted help of the widow and the orphan. His hand was ever open to supply their wants, and his heart always ready to cheer and comfort them in their sorrows. Premonished for several months of his approaching dissolution, he always expressed his willingness and his readiness to leave the present world, in a sure and blissful hope of another and a better. His end was sudden, but his faith in Jesus Christ was strong and abiding, and by it he triumphed over the last enemy. The Quarterly Conference of the Snow Hill Circuit ordered the following Minute of his decease to be entered upon its Record- 1. Resolved, That in the decease of Brother DARDEN our Church has lost a sincere, faithful and zealous Christian and member. 2. That while we submit reverently to the will of God, we pray his blessing on the surviving relatives of Brother DARDEN, and that we may imitate and follow his example of Christian virtue and of faithful service.
