V. Speight, Esq. The deceased was one of those persons, of whom as little harm could be said as of most persons. She was willing to look over the faults and foibles of mankind, and to forgive an injury rather than retaliate. In fact, she seemed to live up to the rule taught by the Saviour of the world, “to do unto all men as you would they should do unto you.” She was not fond of the pomp and show of vain persons; but instructed her family in principles of economy and prudence, and seemed to be one of those good wives repre- sented by the wise man: “She seeketh wool and flax, and worketh diligently with here hands.” At her departure a more affecting scene seldom oc- curs, but that was only the forerunner of one more solemn. At her interment, scores of neighbors attended her funeral, who mingled in the afflic- tion of the family and bore strong testimony of her worth. Before the paper reached us, that an- nounce the death of Gen. Speight’s wife, we have to communicate the death of his brother Wil- liam’s wife-two ornaments to society. The de- ceased has left four children to care of a fond and afflicted husband.
