Greene County, NC Courthouse
October 15, 1879, Chas. Stocks applied for a Marriage License for Wiley J. 
Stocks and Zilphia Phillips, both of Greene Co. Wiley J. Stocks, age 20, 
white, was son of Chas. and Jane Stocks, both living in Greene Co. Zilphia C. 
Phillips, age 17, white, was daughter of Barney Phillips, living, and Zilphia 
C. Phillips, dead, of Greene Co. Written consent for this marriage was given 
by Barney Phillips, father of Zilphia C. Phillips, and was filed by Jno. C. 
Dixon, Register of Deeds. On October 16, 1879 J.M. Barfield, Minister of the 
Free Will Baptist, united in Matrimony Wiley J. Stocks and Zilphia Philips at 
Barney Philips’ in Olds Township. 

Witnesses were: C.E. Phillips of Greene Co., William A. McCoy of Lenoir Co., 
and J.E. Jones of Greene Co.
