Greene County, NC Courthouse
December 9, 1878, Jas. A. Davis applied for a Marriage License for David 
Newell and Ada Wingate, both of Greene Co. David Newell, age 25, white, was 
son of Jas. Newell, living, and Della Newell, living, of Greene Co. Ada 
Wingate, age 16, white, was daughter of Henry Wingate, living, and Caroline 
Wingate, dead, residents of Pitt Co. Written consent of Henry Wingate, father 
of Ada Wingate, to the proposed marriage filed with Jno. C. Dixon, Register of 
Deeds. December 11, 1878, the marriage of David Newell and Ada Wingate was 
performed by Jesse T. Davis, a Disciple Minister, at the residence of James A. 
Davis in Greene Co., Olds Township. 

Witnesses were: Cullin Phillips, J.E. Jones, and A.T. Grimsley, all of Olds 
Township.
