John G.BRITT 1903 Greene Co. wife: Martha Ann Elizabeth BRITT- without letters of administration take charge of and have the entire control and management of my estate both real and personal and carry on the farm for the benefit of all those that compose the family at the time of my death. wife- the plantation upon which I now live, except such portion bequeathed hereafter to my several children, Mary Jane, Emma, John W. and James F. BRITT. daughter: Mary Jane BRITT one half of the tract of land known as lot no. 1 in the plot of my lands lying on the west end of the same the bounds to be determined by a committee of three men selected by herself and Emma and said division may be made upon the demand of either one of my said daughters , at anytime after the marriage of either, or where either one arrives at the age of twenty one years , and said committee may value the same and determine what amount shall be paid to her and Emma from the residue of my estate (at the death of my said wife) to make their shares equal to those hereinafter given to my other daughters. Item 3- daughter Emma BRITT the other half of lot no. 1 Item 4- son John W. BRITT, when he arrives at the age of 21 years the lands known as the Absolom (Absalom? EDWARDS tract of land (the same being lot No. 3 in the plot of my lands) excepting the life estate of my said wife in the Braudam? and Meadow fields and the privilege of timber for said fields. He is to pay the estate upon the death of his mother or when he reaches age 21 the sum of 500 dollars . Item 5-son James F. BRITT when he arrives at the age of 21 years the house tract known as lot no. 2 excepting the life estate of my said wife, in the mansion house and the houses adjoining the grove, the garden, the gin house field and the field behind the barn and the tenant house known as Allenšs house and field on the north side of the road, and a life interest in the timbers. He shall pay to my estate at the death of his mother or when he arrives at the age of 21 years the sum of 500 dollars. Item 6- daughter Martha Ann Winifred MOORE wife of Jess R. MOORE the sum of one thousand six hundred dollars, the same being the advancements heretofore made to her and which is a fair and equitable portion of my estate. Item 7- daughter Penelope WHITFIELD, wife of Wm H. WHITFIELD the sum of one thousand sixhundred dollars the same being the amount already advanced to her and which is a fair and equitable portion of my estate. Item 8- daughter Sarah Ann Wylie EDWARDS wife of James EDWARDS the sum of one thousand sixhundred dollars the same being the amount already advanced to her and which is a fair and equitable portion of my estate. Item 9- wife M. A. E. BRITT personal property , and that she should make the portions of my two daughters Martha, Penelope and Sarah, paying to them the sums that may be determined upon by the committee mentioned in item 2 item, Item 10- it is my will and desire that at the death of my said wife, all of my personal property of every discription (including the amounts paid over by my sons John and James) excepting four beds, bed steads, and clothing shall be equally divided among all my children, after the portions of Mary Jane and Emma have been made equal to my other____ and that the articles excepted in this item be given to my 4 children Mary Jane, Emma, Jno. W. and James F. BRITT Lastly it is my will and desire that at the death of my said wife, my children who are of lawful age together with the guardian selected by my minor children, if any, shall select a commitee of three disinterested persons, who shall settle the estate and make division among the several heirs according to the true intent and meaning of this Last Will and Testament. signed John G. BRITT, 12 Jan 1878 Witnesses W.A. DARDEN John W. TAYLOR Codicil made 17 June 1902 Ratifys and confirms origninal Will except the following changes: sons-James F. BRITT and John W. BRITT to now pay 600 dollars instead of 500, and they are not required to pay these sums until after the death of their mother. wife- directed to sell the tract of land known as ___ JONES Place either publicly or privately and without any order from the court , the money to be applied toward the debts and expenses of the administration of the estate. Surplus money to be divided between "my children" Jno. W. BRITT, James F. BRITT, Mary Jane FIELDS, and Emma HACKNEY.
