Greene County, NC - Will of Dixon Davis, Sr. 1857 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Will of Dixon Davis, Sr. 1857 I Dixon Davis Sr. of the County of Johnston and State of North Carolina being of sound mind and memory but considering the uncertainty of my earthly existence do make, publish and declare this my last will and testament in manner and form following: first- that my executor herein after named to pay all of my just debts hereafter proved for in this Item- I give and bequeath to my beloved wife Mourning Davis first, I give her my land two hundred and fifty acres known as the house and mill tract & together with all improvements and the growing crops and I give to the said wife all my horses cattle sheep hogs & fowls together with all my household & kitchen furniture I give it to her her lifetime or widowhood & I now give to my son Dixon Davis my home tract of land known as the house & mill, tract 252 acres to have after the death or widowhood of my wife & if the said Dixon Davis should die and leave no lawful heirs I then give it to be equally divided between all my lawful heirs and after the death of my wife or widowhood I give all the horses cows and stock together with I give all the household & kitchen furniture with the exception of my daughter Elizabeth I will to her after the death of my wife twenty five dollars to be saved out of the property and paid to her. I now give to my son Adin Davis one tract of land containing one hundred acres to have during his lifetime and then to his lawful heirs it being the tract he now lives on. I now give to my daughters all my household and kitchen furniture to be equally divided between Harriet Brady, Sarah Davis and Esther Davis and if my son Dixon Davis should stay with my wife and help to support my wife I then give two equal shares of my perishable property after the death of my wife & if my son Dixon Davis should want to leave my wife and farm at any time before the death of my wife I give him the Claybank house and nothing else of the perishable property. I do hereby constitute and appoint my trusty son Dixon Davis my lawful executor to all extents and purposes to execute my last will and testament according to the true intent and meaning of the same and every past and clause thereof hereby revoking and declaring utterly void all other wills and testament by me heretofore made.
