Greene County, NC - Will of Penelope L. Grant, 1900 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ North Carolina Greene County I PENELOPE L. GRANT, of the county and state aforesaid being of sound mind and disposing memory but considering the uncertainty of life and the certainty of death do make and declare this to be my last will and testament and in words as follows. I give devise and bequeath unto my husband JOHN W GRANT for and during his natural life all the lands I may own at my death and especially that certain piece or parcel or lot of land drawn by and allotted to me in the division of the lands of JOHN W. HARRISON, deceased, (my father) it being Lot No. 4 in the division of the homeplace adjoining Lots No. 3 and 5 drawn by and allotted to LANEY ROBERSON and JOHN H. HARRISON and containing fifty-two acres also one other piece of woodland on Hull Road known also as Lot No. 4 in said division and being land known as the Dixon Land owned by said JOHN W. HARRISON at his death, adjoining the lots drawn in the division of said ______ Place by TRAVIS HARRISON and LANEY ROBERSON and the lands of P. M. HARRISON containing twenty-one acres, all situate in said county of Greene and state of North Carolina. After the death of my said husband JOHN W. GRANT I devise and bequeath unto my children all of the lands described above Viz MARTHA GINN, RICHARD L. GRANT, CLARA FERRILL, STEPHEN GRANT and COUNCIL GRANT, the same to be divided between these equally and to be held by them in fee simple absolute for ever. In the event that either one of my daughters should die without leaving any living children then it is my will that my sons above named shall hold and have her share in such lands in fee simple. I loan unto my said husband for life all of my present property and after his death I devise and bequeath the same unto my son COUNCIL GRANT. And I hereby constitute and appoint WILLIAM E. BEST executor of this my last will and testament. In testimony whereof I hereunto subscribe my name and affix my seal this January 26th AD 1900.
