MARY LANE 1887 State of North Carolina Greene County }S.S I Nathan HOOKER do solemnly Swear (or affirm) that I believe this writing to be and contain the last will and Testament of MARY LANE deceasee; and this I will well and firmly execute the same by first paying debts and then her legacies as far as the said estate shall extend or the law will charge me. And this I will well and tryly and faithfully execute the office of an Executor, agreeable to the ___ and confidence ___ in me. and according to the law. So help me god N.A. HOOKER Sworn to before me Aug 1 1887 D.W. PATRICK C.S.S. Mary LANE of Greene Co Item 1st: the tract of land on which I now reside (if not done before my death) be divided into three parcels or lots or near equal in value, dividing line to be J. W. E. SUGG line on the Southern part of my tract in a northern direction to Contentnea Creek, so as to give to each as near an equal porttion of the cleared and wood land as can conveniently be done, and as thus divided I give and desire the lot on the west and adjoining the lands of Josiah SUGG deceassed to the Nathan A. HOOKER, to him and his heirs forever. Item 2nd, I give and divise the middle lot which must include the buildings in which I now live to Sarah H. HOOKER to her and her heirs forever Item 3rd. The third or Eastern lot, adjoining the lands of the heirs of Henry DIXON deceased. I give and divise to Edward C. ORMOND to him and his heirs forever-provided however that the said Edward C. ORMOND shall pay one hundred dollars to James W. ORMOND- his brother. And until the said one hundred dollars be paid to the said J.W. ORMOND, he the said J.W. ORMOND shall have a claim upon the third lot or parcel of land to the said amount, as such part there of as remains unpaid. Item 4th I give and bequeath to Sarah H. HOOKER two beds, bedstads and furniture, even walnut chairs, and one walnut table, one blue chest,and two trunks, the book case and all my crocery ware, sewing machine, cook stove and vessels? belonging with it. All my kitchen furniture, one large kettle, one cow and calf (if any) one sow and pigs and so much of the provisions on hand, the growing crops as may be necessary for her support for one year. Also the cart wheels, and one beauro and the flax hachet, and as I have no horse to give to her, my will is that she shall have on hundred dollars at my death, or upon the final settlement of my estate. Item 5th I give to said N. A. HOOKER my large map Item 6: I give to ___ Bettie HOOKER daughter of N. A. Hooker one bed and one green chest Item 7: I give to Miss Sue HOOKER daughter of Mr. A. H? HOOKER one blue chest Item 8: I give to Edward C. ORMOND one bed Item 9 I leave all my books to be divided between N. A. HOOKER and Sarah H. HOOKER Item 10: It is my will and desire that all the residue of my estate be sold and the debts owing to me be collected by my Executor and out of which my just debts and expenses be paid. And any surplus remaining (after paying the one hundred dollars named in the 4th item) be given to Sarah H. HOOKER. Nathan A.
