Greene County, NC - Wills File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by Chris Croom LUCRETIA EDWARD’S FIRST WILL This was the first Will written by Lucretia Edwards but the one written on 4 October 1890 was the one probated. By 1890 she owned additional land and her son, William Henry was deceased. I Lucretia Edwards of the County Greene and State of North Carolina being of sound mind and memory but considering the uncertainty of my earthly existence I do hereby make and declare this my last will and testament in manner and form following that is to say: First that my executor herein after named shall provide for my body a decent burial suitable to the wishes of my relations and friends and pay all funeral expenses together with my just debts however and to whomsoever owing out of the moneys that may first come into his hands as part or parcel of my estate Then 2nd I leave and devise to my daughter Pearcy Worrell one tract of land known as (the original document has a crease in the next line so this might not be quite correct) John Holmes land consisting of seventy one acres more or less also Six hundred and fifty seven Dollars and seventy five cents in notes and the interest accuring theron during her natural life and then to her children (if any) forever but if she dies leaving no children then to my son Wm. Henry Edwards during his natural life and then to his children forever. I constitute and make Wm. Henry Edwards a Trustee for my daughter Pearcy Worrell to hold in trust for her the Seventy one acres land and also the notes and all other property which I may leave to her. It is my desire and wish that if I should not live untill the coming fall that Wm. H. Edwards whom I make trustee for my daughter Pearcy Worrell to sell the seventy one acres of land at ten Dollars an acre and invest the money together with the six hundred and fifty seven Dollars and seventy five cents and interest accured in other lands for her Then 3rd I leave and devise to my son Wm. Henry Edwards one tract of land situated in Greene County known as the Epps Place upon which I now reside containing one hundred and seventy acres more or less to have only during his natural life and then to his children forever and the balance of my household furniture and personal property of every description to be equally divided between them share and share alike Pearcy & Wm. H. Edwards my desire is that my son Wm. Henry Edwards & Pearcy Worrell his sister shall within themselves divide the personal property themselves and if they cannot agree the to call in a committee of disinterested persons to make a division.. And lastly I do hereby constitute and appoint my son Wm. Henry Edwards my lawful executor to all intent and purposes to execute this my last will and testament according to the true intent and meaning of the same and every part and clause thereof hereby revoking and declaring all other wills & testaments (next line creased and not readable) -- In witness I the said Lucretia Edwards do hereunto set my hand and seal this the 24th day of May one thousand eight hundred and eighty one (1881) Signed Lucretia (x) Edwards Signed sealed published and declaimed by the said Lucretia Edwards to be her last will and testament in presence of us who at her request and in her presence do subscribe our hands ?? as witness thereto WIT Geo.
