MOORE Found in NC Supreme Court Case #8276, NC Archives, Raleigh, NC Transcribed by Martha Mewborn Marble State of North Carolina Greene County In the name of God Amen. I Jesse W. Moore of the county of Greene & State of North Carolina being of sound mind and memory but considering the uncertainty of my earthly existence do make and declare this to be my last will and Testament in manner and form as follows. Viz Item 1st. I give unto my Sister Elizabeth Moore the interest of Two Thousand Dollars a year I loan her an woman by the name of Caroline during her lifetime. I loan her one bed and furniture. I loan her what house furniture she may need provided she does not live with a person by the name of Seth Moore. Item 2nd. I give to Seth Moore one negro girl by the name of Jane to him and his heirs forever. Item 3rd. I give unto each of my Slaves their freedom I set them all free here but if the law of the State will not allow them to be free under fifty years of age all which is under fifty years old I wish to be sent off to a free State. I give them each one hundred dollars to purchase a tract of land a home for them I wish my Executor to go and see to them if their right, to the land is good and purchase what is useful for them agreeable to the amount of the funds in hand for them now if any of them should choose to remain here in Greene county I lend them my houses and lot now where I live. I give them all the provision which may be on hand. I lend them the balance of my house furniture which my Sister does not want. I give them the rest of my Store house and medical office during their lifetime. Item 4th. When my Sister Elizabeth Moore departs this life, I lend to all the slaves set free here the interest of two Thousand dollars & the same furniture I loan her I wish to lend it to them, during their life time, then at their deaths I give all the property to the people which I set free and is now living free. I give them all my houses and lotts all my cash if there is any any ??? of property by what name it may be called to them and their heirs forever. Item 5th. I hereby appoint my friend Maj. William Dixon my lawful executor to all intents and purposes to execute this my last will and Testament in the true intent and meaning of the same. I hereunto set my hand and seal this the 3rd day of June 1856 Jesse W. Moore Signed Sealed published and declared by the said Jesse W. Moore to be his will and Testament in presence of each of us at his request in the presence of each of us do, subscribe our names as witnesses thereto State of N Carolina November Term AD 1856 Greene County William Dixon the executor appointed by Jesse W. Moore did in his said Will now exhibited to Court comes into Court and after producing to said Court the said Will openly renounces and declines to qualify as Executor thereto, whereupon said will was offered for Probate by Seth Moore and the execution thereof being proved by three creditable witnesses to wit Richard Warren, John W. Dixon & William Dixon, who upon oath say the said paper writing in every part is in the hand writing of said Testator Jesse W. Moore, the same was admitted to probate, and upon motion Seth Moore is hereby appointed Administrator with the will annexed of the said dec he entered into bond in the sum of $30,000 with Edward R. Coward, John W. Dixon & Cullen Edwards as sureties thento & ordered to be recorded. Jas.
