Greene County, NC - Will of Gatlin Pate, 1899 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ North Carolina Greene County I Gatlin Pate of the aforesaid County and State being of sound mind but considering the uncertainty of my earthly existence do make and declare this my last will and Testament. FIRST My Executor hereinafter named shall give my body a decent burial suitable to the wishes of my friends and relatives and pay all funeral expenses together with all my just debts out of the first moneys which may come into his hands belonging to my estate. SECOND I give and devise to my beloved son GEORGE B. PATE all of my interest (which interest is about 20 acres of land) in that piece or parcel of land lying and being on the east side of Hull Road and south of the avenue leading to Joseph P. Hills. Beginning at where said avenue leaves said Hull Road and runs with said avenue to J.P. Hills line thence a straight line to rainbow branch thence with the run of said branch to J.P. Hills line then with his line to Geo. W. Jones line thence with said Jones line to Hull Road thence with said Hull Road northward to the beginning said to contain one hundred and four acres, said GEORGE B. PATE having paid for all but about twenty acres heretofore. THIRD My wishes and desires is that my son GEORGE PATE take possession of my home place where I now live containing forty two acres and described as follows (gives description, mentions Richard E. Jones, Phillips and Buzzard Branch, J.P. Hills line) My further desire is that he pay over to my beloved son JAMES H. PATE the sum of one hundred dollars in four installments that is to say pay him twenty five dollars per year for four years also pay my grand son BERRY PATE fifty dollars when he becomes to the age of twenty one years old, and further pay to my beloved daughter ELIZABETH EDWARDS the sum of ten dollars and further my will and desire is that he see that my beloved wife PENELOPE PATE is well taken care of and provided for during her natural life. FOURTH I give and bequeath to my beloved son JAMES H. PATE all of my personal property that may exist after the death of my beloved wife. FIFTH I give to my beloved son GEO. B. PATE after he has complied with my wishes in Item third full possession and title and all interest in my home tract of land. Sixth I here declare that all property that I have given to each one of my children either personal or real heretofore not mentioned in this my last will and testament shall remain theirs as I have given it. SEVENTH I hereby constitute and appoint my trusty friend GEORGE W. JONES my lawful executor to all intents and purposes to execute this my last Will and Testament according to the true intent and meaning of the same and every part and clause thereof - hereby revoking and declaring utterly void all other Wills and Testaments by me heretofore made. Their name is not on my copy, nor does there appear to have been enough space between the will and probate proceeding for their signatures.
