[Note: Court Case dealing with heirs also posted, see under Court --er] In the name of God Amen I Travis Turnage of the County of Greene and State of No. Carolina being of Sound mind and memory but Considering the uncertainty of my Earthly existence do make & declare this my last Will & Testament in manner & form as follows, that is to Say, first that my Executor herein afternamed shall provide for my body a decent burial Suitable to the wishes of my relatives & friends, and pay all funeral expenses together with my Just debts to whomsoever owing out of the monies that may first come into her hands as a parcel or part of my estate. - - - Item 1- I Give unto my beloved Wife Chrischana Turnage the following Negroes and property (Viz) one Negro woman by the name of Ary & all her increase, on Negro Man by the name of Howell, one Negro man by the name of Major, and one Negro Man by the name of Squire to her & her heirs forever- Also I Give her two Notes on Thomas Hooker Sen'r. one Note on James Edwards which I hold against them and _____ [twelve?] Hundred Dollars in other Good Notes, Also one Horse _____ [Beroisch?] & Gear, Two beds, bedsteads & furniture her choice, and all of my money on hand - and one Negro Woman by the name of Phillis & her increase - and all necessaries on hand to her and her heirs forever - - - Item 2- I lend unto my Wife Chrischaney Turnage during her natural life my Houses & Lotts in the Town of Hookerton, - Also the four Acres of land which I purchased from Hymrick Hooker ajoining my lott on the South East Side, Also her choice of one of the Negroes which I have not disposed of Also all of my household and kitchen furniture the china ware and crockery ware, one Cow and Calf & all the stock of Hogs that I may have, the loom & Gear, & everything, appertaining thereto and Tools of all discriptions - - - Item 3d- I give unto my beloved Lewis Turnages Children five Hundred Dollars to be Equally divided between them Item 4th- I Give unto my beloved Nephew Thomas T. Turnage one Negro Boy by the name of Caesar to him and his heirs forever Item 5th- I Give unto my beloved Nephew Thomas Hooker Ju'r. one Hundred Dollars in money Item 6th- I Give unto my beloved Brother Amos Turnage Children one Hundred Dollars each except Thomas T. Turnage. Item 7th- I Give unto my beloved Nephew Travis Hooker my Houses and Lotts in the Town of Hookerton Nos. 3, 4, 5 & 6 - after my Wife departs this life, Also one Negro boy by the name of Warren to him and his heirs forever Item 7th- I Give unto my beloved Brother Moses Turnages Children Six Hundred Dollars to be divided Equally between the Six youngest Children Item 9th- I Give unto my beloved Neice Luezer Joiner one Hundred Dollars Item 10th- I Give unto my beloved Brother Elias Turnage all the ballance of my Negroes Except Negro Willey, which I have not disposed of and all of my notes after the other Shares are drawed out and the residue to him and his heirs forever Item 11th- Now it is my desire after my beloved Wife Chrischance Turnage departs this life, I wish all the perishable property to be Sold, Also the four Acres of Land to be Sold which I purchased of Hymrick Hooker and the net proceeds arising from the Sale to be Equally Divided Between Clary Askeys Daughters and my Brother Elias Turnages Daughters Item 12th- I Give unto my beloved Nephew William Franklin Hooker one Negro Boy by the name of Wiley to him and his heirs forever Lastly, I do hereby Constitute and appoint my beloved Wife Chrischana Turnage my lawful Executrix to all intents and purposes to Execute this my last Will and Testament according to the true intent and meaning of the Same and every part and clause thereof hereby Revoking and declaring utterly void all other Wills and Testaments by me heretofore made In Witness whereof I the said Travis Turnage do hereunto set my hand and seal this the 3rd day of April 1846- Signed Sealed published and declared by the said Travis Turnage to be his last Will and Testament in presents of us who at his request in his presents and in the presents of each other do subscribe our names as Witnesses thereto- Wm. Ormond Jesse W. Moore signed Travis Turnage (Seal) State of North Carolina, Greene County. May Term A.D. 1846- Then was the foregoing last Will and Testament of Travis Turnage Decd. Exhibited into open Court and the execution thereof duly proven by the oaths of Wm. Ormond and Jesse W. Moore the two Subscribing Witnesses thereto & ordered to be Recorded - - - At the Same time Christiana Turnage the Executrix therein named Came into open Court & Qualified as Executrix to Said Will according to Law - ordered that letters of Testamentary issue accordingly. - Attest, Jas.
