In the name of God Amen I Watkins Ormond of Greene County in the State of North Carolina Farmer being of Sound mind & memory but calling to mind the uncertainty of this Life and knowing it is appointed for man to die, Do therefore make and ordain this to be my last Will and Testament- First I humbly recommend my immortal Soul into the Hands of my Heavenly Father my mortal Body to be buried in a plain Christian like manner, and all my Worldly Estate I dispose off as follows, I lend unto my beloved Wife Betsey Ormond half my Land and Plantation belonging to the Tract I live on including my Houses and Orchard so long as she lives a Widow, and after her marriage, or if she do not marry after her death, I give and devise it with all the other land Which I hold to my four Sons Samuel W. Ormond, Joshua Ormond, Thomas C. Ormond, and Adam C.Ormond to be Equally divided among them to them and their heirs forever- I lend unto my beloved Wife Betsey Ormond all my House and Kitchen furniture, three axes, four plows and gear, four hoes, one Still and Worm, all my Cider barrels, one riding chair and gear two horses or mares her choice, my oxen and Cart four Cows and Calves, and What Sheep I have (only I desire that as my Children grow up and leave her for her to fix each one with bed and furniture) so long as she lives a Widow, and after her marriage, or if she do not marry after her death I give it all to my eight Children equal among them and their heirs forever- I give unto my beloved Wife Betsey Ormond one half of my Corn, Peas, fodder, hoggs Bacon and Pork, all my flax, Potatoes, Wheet, Sweetening, Coffee, Salt, Wool, Shoe leather, Poultry, and one thousand pounds of Cotton in the Seed if I have as much by me at my death, also all my brandyfor the support of her & my Children.- I give unto my Daughter Susanna Ormond two hundred and fifty dollars out of debts due me and onenegro Boy named Ned one Side Saddle one linnen Wheel, one Woolen Wheel and one Chest, to herand her heirs forever.- I give unto my Daughter Peninah Ormond two hundred and fifty seven dollars out of debts due me,one negro Boy named Jack, one Side Saddle, one Woolen Wheel, and one Chest to her and her heirs forever.- I give unto my Daughter Betsey A. Ormond two hundred and seventy five dollars out of debts due me, and one Negro Boy named Joe, and one Chest to her and her heirs forever.- I give unto my Daughter Martha Ormond three hundred dollars out of debts due me, and one negro Boy named Wiley to her and her heirs forever.- I give unto my beloved Wife Betsey Ormond and my eight Children, Susanna, Peninah, Betsey, Samuel, Joshua, Thomas, Martha, and Adam all the negroes belonging to me at my death except those given before, to be equally divided when my Wife Wishes it done or when my oldest Child become of age, or one of my Children marry, to them their heirs and assigns forever.- I give all my Books to my Wife and eight Children to them and their heirs forever. I give my wearing apparrel, Silver Watch and blackSmith tools to my four Sons to them and their heirs forever- I desire that all the rest and residue of my Estate of all kinds that is not given before, to be Sold at a credit of Six months then after paying my Just debts, the money arising from Such Sale with the money already due me which is not given heretofore to be equally divided between my Wife and my eight Children- Lastly I nominate and appoint my Brother James Ormond my nephew James Harper, and my friend Charles Edwards, Executors to this my Last Will and Testament. In Witness Whereof I have hereunto Set my hand and Seal this first day of September in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and twenty seven- Written Signed & Sealed by my own hand and declared by me the Testator to be my last Will and Testament- Watkins Ormond (Seal) November Term 1829-- State of North Carolina Greene County- Then was the within last Will and Testament of Watkins Ormond decd offered for probate by Charles Edwards one of the Executors therein named and proved by the oaths of Samuel H. Hart, William Williams, and John J. Edwards who swore they were well acquainted with the hand writing of the Said Watkins Ormond and that they believed the Same and every part thereof was in the proper hand writing of the Said Watkins Ormond and also by the oath of James Harper who deposed that the Said Will was found among the Valuable papers of the Said Watkins Ormond after his deceased Whereupon it is ordered by the Court that the Said Will be admitted to probate and that Charles Edwards and James Harper the Executors therein named be admitted to Qualify as Executors thereto, and it is further ordered by the Court that the Executors have leave to Sell on a Credit of Six months all the Estate not specifically devised in Said Will pursuant to the directions therein. Williams Clk State of North Carolina I James Williams Clerk of the Court of Pleas and Quarter Sessions for the County of Greene and State aforesaid Do Hereby Certify that the foregoing is a true copy of the Last Will and Testament & the Certificate thereto annexed of Watkins Ormond Decd, as full and entire as it remains of Record and from the original which is on file in said office- In Witness of Which Thereunto Set my hand and Seal This 6th day of April 1850- Attest..
