S. QUATE DEED FROM F. S. DAVIS This deed, made this 16th day of September A.D. 1882 by F. S. Davis and Ruth Davis, his wife, of Guilford County and State of North Carolina, to J. S. Quate, of Guilford County and State of North Carolina, Witnesseth, That said F. S. Davis and wife, in consideration of the sum of five hundred dollars to them paid by J. S. Quate, the receipt of which is hereby acknowledged, have bargained and sold, and by these presents do bargain, sell, and convey to said J. S. Quate and his heirs, a tract of land in Guilford County and State of North Carolina, bounded as follows, viz: Lying on the waters of Polecat Creek adjoining the land of J. M. Davis, Johnathan Hodgin and John O. Murrow, containing eighty acres, more or less, for lines and boundaries see deed recorded in Registers Office in Book No. 57 page 124. To have and to hold the aforesaid tract of land and all privileges and appurtenances thereto belonging to the said J. S. Quate and his heirs and assigns to his only use and behoof and the said F. S. Davis and wife covenant that they are seized of said premises in fee and have right to convey the same in fee simple, that the some are free from incumbrances, and that they will warrant and defend the said title to the same against the claims of all persons whatsoever. In testimony whereof, the said F. S. Davis and wife have hereunto set their hands and seals the day and year above written. Attest: W. S. Coffin F. S. Davis (Seal) Her Ruth (X) Davis (Seal) Mark State of North Carolina: Guilford County: Be it remembered, that on this 17th day of September A.D. 1882, before me, W. S. Coffin, Justice of the Peace for said County, personally appeared F. S. Davis and Ruth Davis, his wife, grantors named in the foregoing deed, and acknowledged the due execution thereof by them as their act and deed. And thereupon, the said Ruth Davis, being by me privately examined, separate and apart from her said husband, touching her free consent in the execution thereof, doth declare, on such her examination, that she had executed the same freely, of her own will and accord, without any force, fear or undue influence of her said husband, or other person, and did still voluntarily assent thereto.
