This indenture made this fourth day of January, 1794 between Thomas Morgan of the County of Guilford and State of North Carolina, of the one part, and JOSEPH MCDOWEL [I] of the state and county aforesaid of the other part. Witnesseth that the said Thomas Morgan, for and in consideration of the sum of 115 pounds, hard money of said state hath…given, granted, bargained and sold…unto the said JOSEPH MCDOWELL [I]…that tract and parcel of land on the waters of the Alamance [Creek] containing 200 acres more or less beginning at a stone near the bank of Burch Creek on William Peasley’s line, turning thence north on said line to a post oak twelve chains and five tenths, thence east on said line fourteen chains and seventy links to a black oak, thence north on William Peasley’s line sixty-three poles to a black oak marked Andrew’s corner, thence north five poles to a post oak, thence west one hundred and twenty poles to a white oak in the original line, thence south along said line one hundred and fifty-two poles to a post oak, then east forty- six chains to the beginning, together with all the woods, waters, mines, minerals, hereditaments and appurtenances appertaining to hold to the said JOSEPH MCDOWELL to him, his heirs and assigns for ever, to his and their proper use and behoof for ever, and he, the said Thomas Morgan doth hereby grant that he will, for himself and his heirs and all and every other person claiming by, from or under him or any of them, in witness whereof he hath hereunto set his hand and affixed his seal, the day and year above written, signed, sealed and delivered in the presence of us, Marshall McLean, William Peasely.
