General Cornwallis and his British soldiers, on their march toward 
Guilford Courthouse, passed within a mile of the Robert Paisley, George 
Stewart, and John McLean homes near Alamance Creek and Rock Creek, 
along the Alamance/Guilford County line. Colonel John McLean was an 
officer in the county militia and was one of the men who later 
confiscated land and properties of the known Tory sympathizers in this 
area and sold them for profit.)
