From The Papers Of General Nathanael Greene, Vol. 7, Page 429:
	“From William Courtney, [McCuiston’s Farm, in Guilford County, NC] 13 
March 1781. ‘Some time ago,’ he and William O’Neal petitioned NG for 
their ‘enlargement from the English.’ He recounts his capture and subsequent 
treatment. [This sounds like it has the potential for an interesting bit of 
local history! Has anyone transcribed this from the Clement Library, Univ. of 
Michigan?] The British have made prisoners of ‘every man in town [Hillsborough] 
(except three),’ but Courtney, a state senator and justice of the peace, has 
been singled out and abused for his ‘conduct and being so great a rebel.’ 
Fears ‘some capital stroke is intended against’ him. Most of the other 
Hillsborough men who are with Lord Cornwallis-there are ‘about 115 of them-have 
been given some privileges, but are sick, cold, and ‘destitute of every 
necessary and convenience of life.’ Tells Ng: ‘Next to their god, their 
dependence is upon you r Excellency for their deliverance.’ ALS (MiU-C) 3
