All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/nc/ncfiles.htm ************************************************ File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by: Janet King JPerdue192@aol.com January 3, 2010, 11:29 pm Declaration And Schedule State of North Carolina Guilford County Superior Court of Law October Term 1820 On this 23 day of Oct 1820 personally appeared in open court being a court of record for the county and state aforesaid Reuben Benson aged 62 years, who duly sworn according to law doth on his oath make the following declaration, in order to obtain the provision made by the Acts of Congress of the 18 of March 1818 and of the 1 March 1820. That he the said Reuben Benson enlisted for the term of during the war on the 13 day of May in the year 1777 in the state of Penn in the Company Commanded by Capt Andrew Porter in the 4th Regiment of Artillery commanded first by Thos Procter and afterward by Andrew Porter in the Line of the State of Penn on the (??) continental establishment that he continued to serve in the corp until the 6th day of October in the year 1783 when he was discharged from the said service in Philadelphia in the state of Penn. That he was in the battles of Brandywine, Germantown, Monmouth in New Jersey and one battle against the Seneca Indians in Sullivan's Expedition and that he has no other evidence now in his power of his said services except what is herein set forth on this day of Oct 1820 personally appeared in open court being a court of record for said County Reuben Benson aged 62 years resident in said County who being duly sworn according to law doth on his oath declare, that he served in the Revolutionary War, as follows in the 4th Regiment of Artillery Capt Andrew Porters Company of Penn Line. And I do solemnly swear that I was a resident citizen of the United States on the 18 of March 1818 and that I have not since that time by gift, sale or in any manner whatever disposed of my property or any part thereof with intent thereby so to diminish it as to bring myself within the provisions of an act of Congress entitled an act to provide for certain persons engaged in the land and naval services on the 18 March 1818 and that I have not nor has any person in trust for me any property on sevenities(?) contracts or debts due to me nor have I any income other than is contained in the schedule hereto annexed and by me subscibed. Reuben Benson (seal) 23 Oct 1820 Schedule 2 old Wheels one reel and one pair of chards the wheels and reels have been in use more than 20 years 2 old boars(?) 4 old chairs somewhat broken 1 small iron pot and 1 skillet 1 old teakettle 1 old washing tub and pail 2 old meal tubs 6 earthen plates, 4 knives and forks 4 old spoons, 2 earthern crocks and a dish 1 cow and calf 1 pig and axe 3 cups and saucers, 5 small pewter spoons debts owing to me trust $5.00 debts owing to me to be paid to clothes & provisions out of the (?) used $53.90 Also a lease on a cabbin & small old field for about 6 years Total amt adjuded by _____ is $78.00 My trade or occupation is that of making shoes and I am so infirm and weakly as not to earn half my own living. I have besides myself three in family to wit Ann Benson my daughter 25 years old who is destitute of education and can only Chard and spin - Phebe Benson my dau 22 years old has been sick much of her time and almost constantly so for six months past has never contributed but very little to her own or my support - Jane Benson the child of my above named eldest dau Ann Benson 3 years old and of course dependent for her support.
