Locke and General Rutherford, ___ ___ not recollected, ___ served a tour of 9 months. ___ that 9 months tour, he ____ through South Carolina the Savannah River and was discharged the 1st of February 1779 on the Savannah River, and on the same day, 1st of February, 1779 he substituted for a man by the name of ?Caswell ?Kar and served a tour of 5 months part of the same under Captain Wilson and part under Captain ___ in the same regiment commanded by Col. Locke and General Rutherford, and in that tour, recrossed the Savannah River and was in the Battle at Briar Creek on the _th of March, 1779, and the 1st of July he was discharged on Santee in South Carolina ?above Nelson’s Ferry and returned to Guilford County, NC.” “About the 1st of April, 1781, he enlisted under Captain John Foster and served a tour of 10? months and part of the ___ time _____ under the command of Captain Jacob Barnett in the regiment commanded by Col. Wade Hampton, during which said period he ?marched through a part of South Carolina and was in the Battle of Eutaw Springs and crossed the Savannah River at Augusta, and stayed for some time in the State of Georgia ____ ____ _____ ____ ____ cam__ in South Carolina and was discharged at Orangeburg in South Carolina by a man whose name he does not recollect. He has lost said discharge or mislaid it so that he cannot find it.
