Personally appeared before me the Subscriber, president Judge of the fourth Circuit of the Courts of Common pleas of Said State, Simon Hill aged about fifty seven years, a resident of the County of Licking & State aforesaid who being duly cautioned and sworn according to Law, doth upon his oath make the following declaration in order to obtain the provisions of the late law of Congress entitled an act to provide for certain persons engaged in the land & Naval Service of the United States in the revolutionary War" (Viz) That he served in the army of his Country for the period of about one year, --- That he enlisted at Fauquire Court House in the State of Virginia in a company Commanded by Captain _____ Armstrong in the Second regiment Commanded by Colonel Samuel Hawes (as he believes) of the Virginia line, in the Month of September in the year before Cornwallis was taken. That he continued to serve in the Said corps in the Service of the United States until about the Month of September following, and was discharged (Honably) from the Service at the high hills of Santee in South Carolina --- That his discharge was signed by Major _____ Sneed but which is now lost or destroyed. That he was engaged in the following battles (viz) The battle of Guilford Court House --- Camden --- The Seige of Fort 96 --- and at the battle of the Eutaw Springs --- That he is now in reduced circumstances in life and needs the assistance of his Country for Support --- and that he hath now no other evidence in his power of his Said Service and further he Saith not ---. Sworn & Subscribed before me this Simon Hill. 6th day of July 1819. William Wilson. I William Wilson Judge as aforesaid do hereby Certify that is has been made appear to my satisfaction that the Said Simon Hill did Serve in the revolutionary war as stated in the foregoing Deposition against the common enemy, on the Continental establishment --- And also that he is now in reduced circumstances in life and needs the assistance of his Country for Support --- And I now transmit the proceedings taken and had before me to the secretary for the department of War agreeably to the aforesaid act of Congress.
