All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/nc/ncfiles.htm ************************************************ File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by: Nancy Poquette npoq@hotmail.com February 20, 2007, 2:26 am Pension Application Of David Lawson, Nat’l Archives Series M804, Roll __, Application #R6200 Campbell County, Tennessee} On this 24th day of October, 1843, personally appeared before the subscriber, a justice of the peace for said county, David Lawson, a resident of said county and state aforesaid, aged 85 years, and after being duly sworn according to law, doth on his oath make the following declaration…: That he entered the service in the North Carolina militia in the War of the Revolution at Guilford Courthouse in the state of North Carolina in the year 1780 under Captain Johnson and was in the Battle at Cowpens. In this campaign her served six months. After the Battle of the Cowpens, he volunteered and went to the headwaters of the River Holston to defend the western frontier, and was under Captain Campbell for six months. After his discharge from Captain Campbell, he was retained as an Indian spy under the command of Colonel Dickison [Dixon] and Captain Lewis. He was upwards of eight months in this service and encountered a quite many hardships. He further declares that owing to the lapse of time and the loss of memory, he has forgotten a great many of the particulars of his campaigns and nothing but the reverse of fortune has caused him to ask of his government that which he knows to be justly due him… etc. Scott County, Tennessee} Be it known that before me, W. W.
