In May, 1774, he moved from New Jersey to Guilford County, N. C. He was appointed Colonel Commandant of Guilford County Militia by Samuel Johnson, President of Congress and afterward Governor of North Carolina. His brother was Colonel Alexander Martin. In June, 1776, he marched with Guilford militia on the Cherokee Expedition. He served continuously against the Indians and Tories. Note:- He died October 31, 1834.
