That she was raised in Fairfax County in the state of Virginia; that her father, Butler Ashford, moved to Guilford County, North Carolina in the time of the Revolutionary War and the last day of September, 1779, se was married to Edward Taylor, and shortly after, he was drafted for 3 months service in the war, and left home, she thinks, two weeks before Christmas, and was marched from Guilford Courthouse to the south, as she was informed. His officers, she has no recollection of their names. The discharge here enclosed was her husband’s for 3 months service, and the certificate of William Taylor, his brother, for three months that is here annexed, making 6 months, for which service she claims a pension for her husband and for his brother, William; and their father moved to this county, she thinks, 50 or 60 years past, and her husband resided on the same place to his death, which was on the 12th day of February, 1833, and she resides on the same place and is the identical widow of Edward Taylor and has not married since. She thinks there was a register of her age and marriage, but she does not know where it is. Sworn and subscribed the day and year as above. Ann Taylor, her mark. Be it known, that before me, Littleton Harris, one of the acting justice of the peace for the county of Montgomery, North Carolina, personally appeared, William Taylor, and after being duly sworn according to law, doth on his oath state that he is the brother of Edward Taylor, deceased, as above, who was the sons of John Taylor, all of whom resided in Fairfax County in the state of Virginia below Alexandria and not far from Potomac River at the commencement of the Revolution. That his father and his brother Edward was called into service several times, but he does not know how long, and they ?helped build one or more breastworks on or near the river as he understood and after his father moved to Guilford County, North Carolina, and there resided till after the war. And before a draft took place, his father was clear, by age, of militia service, his brother Edward married Ann Ashford before he performed [he thinks] any service in North Carolina. His father moved from the same county in Virginia, and settled in Guilford County, a neighbor, and after a short time after his brother’s marriage he was drafted for 3 months service. He met at Guilford Courthouse and was marched to the south. His officers names is not recollected, and sometime after my brother returned from the south, I had arrived to the age of militia service, a draft took place. Myself and my brother Edward was drafted for 3 months service under Captain McAdo [McAdow] and Colonel Paceley [Paisley] and was marched towards the lower part of this state and to various places where their services was out. They received a discharge, and what has become of them, I do not know. It was the first service I performed. He had a register of their age, and is among their connection, but where I know not, but think I am near 74 years of age. His father, myself, and brother E. Taylor moved to this county between 50 and 60 years past, and here resided to the death of Father and brother Edward, and his widow, Ann Taylor resides on the same place and has never married since, and has ever resided a near neighbor,. My brother Edward died the 12th of February, 1838, according to the __ kept of his death. The above is as far as I understood or can recollect at this time. She is very infirm. Sworn and subscribed before me, this 8th day of March, 1838. William Taylor, his mark. Wadesboro, March 13th, 1838 J. L. Edwards, Commissioner of Pensions Sir, I enclose to you the declaration of ___ Anna Taylor, also a discharge for three months service of her husband in the revolution. I also enclose to you a leaf of an testament containing the register of her children. The balance, it appears, has been destroyed. The widow has three daughters resides with her. The two youngest of her children, Nancy and Polly, twins. Their names and ages was in another testament clear to be understood, they were born the 2nd day of February, 1803. The oldest daughter produced the enclosed leaf that she had taken care of. Wanted it transcribed into the other testament with the youngest. I examined it and asked leave to take the leaf with me, to do it another time. You will do me and them a favor to make a correct statement of their ____ [probably ‘names’] and ages that I may register them for the family for I assure you that __ cannot or I would not trouble you. You will enclose to me your statement, old register and discharge when convenient. Yours most respectfully, Rufus R. Johnson. (agent) ??Susanna Taylor, the daughter of Edward Taylor, Anna his wife, was born August 2 [or 5th], 17__ [edges of paper crumbled] ??Sarah or Hannah?? Taylor, the daughter of the aforesaid Edward and Anna, his wife, was born February the 10th, 1784. John Taylor, the son of the aforesaid Edward Taylor and Anna, his wife was born November the 9th, 1784. Butler Stone? Street? Taylor, the son of the aforesaid Edward Taylor and Anna, his wife, was born September __1785. Edward Taylor, the son of the aforesaid Edward Taylor and Anna, his wife, was born August the 25th, 1788? James Taylor, son of the aforesaid Edward Taylor and Anna, his wife, was born December the 4th, 1790. Elizabeth Taylor, daughter of the aforesaid Edward Taylor and Anna, his wife, was born August the 17th, 1794.
