These two first sessions were held with closed doors. All, hereafter will be open to the public. The Friends, commonly known as Quakers, number five thousand in this State and hail principally from Randolph, Guilford, Alamance, Chatham, Johnston, Wayne, Northampton, Perquimans, Yadkin, and Surry counties. They are classified into the following quarterly meetings: Eastern, Contentnea, Western, Southern, Deep River, New Garden, Yadkin Valley, and Friendsville, Tenn., all of which are largely represented. The Friends' church property at this place consists of a large brick edifice, with a seating capacity of one thousand, and six acres of land, on which is a beautiful grove and several wells of fine water. This meeting not only serves as a great annual gathering of friends, but also many hundreds of all denominations. Reduced rates of board are kindly furnished by the hotel and private houses of the town. The various churches of the place are tendered the Friends on Sunday, all of which will be filled to their greatest capacity, besides a very large tent owned by Friends.
