The Brock Bulletin July 13, 1911
From THE BROCK BULLETIN, Thursday, July 13, 1911:  George Alexander Clapp 
expired at his home in Brock last Saturday night at 11 PM.  He had not been in 
good health for the past two years, being afflicted with arteriole sclerosis 
which finally resulted in his death.  He was a man honored and respected in 
the community for his integrity and upright living and many mourn the passing 
of this good man from us.  Geo, A. Clapp was born in Guilford County, North 
Carolina Sep 4, 1832, and died at his home in Brock July 8, 1911, aged 78 
years, 8 months and 4 days.  He was born George Eli Clapp, the 11th child of 
Isaac Clapp SR and Catharina Clapp. His father died before he was a month old 
and his mother passed away when he was 14 years old.  He came to Vermillion 
County, Illinois when he was 16 with his older brother.  He was married to 
Margaretta Catherine Brown June 27, 1855 and she died in 1858.  To this union 
were born 3 children, Mrs. Mattie J. Matthews of Minatare Nebraska; Dr. C.B. 
Clapp (who operated a large hospital) in Moberly, Mo.; and Isaac D. Clapp of 
Lincoln, Ne.  Geo A. Clapp was a veteran of the civil war, enlisting in Sep 
1862, being 1st Lieutenant of Co I (or 1), 125th Illinois Volunteers.  Served 
during the war and at the close of the war returned to Vermillion County and 
taught school for a number of years.  He married Elizabeth Jane Robertson Sep 
13, 1866.  The result of this union was 4 children, Charles E. Clapp of 
Tecumseh, Nebraska; George O. Clapp of Lapwai Idaho; Mrs. Laura E. Childers of 
Spokane Washington and Mrs. Cora Knox of Brock, Nebraska.  In the year 1872, 
the family left Illinois and came to Nemaha County, Nebraska, locating on a 
farm 3 miles northwest of Brock.  In after years they sold the farm and 
located in Brock, residing there at time of death.  In his young manhood days, 
Mr. Clapp was converted and united with the M.E. church and has in his life 
proved and earnest and consistent Christian, as can be verified by his many 
friends and neighbors.  For about 30 years he has been a member of the G.A.R. 
Roberts Post.  He was Justice of the peace a great many years in Lafayette 
Precinct, giving universal satisfaction in his decisions.  His advice a great 
many times being not to go to the law, but to bear and forebear.  In the last 
few years, his health has steadily failed him, and he realized that soon 
change awaited him.  His has borne his afflictions without murmuring, and has 
repeatedly said he left his case to his maker, who doeth all things well.  
Just a few days before his death, speaking to his wife, he said, "All is 
well.  I am ready." Funeral Services were conducted by Rev. Grimes at the M.E. 
Church at 2 o'clock this afternoon, and interment was made at Lafayette 
Cemetery in Brock, Nebraska.  All children were present at the obsequies 
except his son Isaac D. Clapp.
