The Semi-Weekly Messenger (Wilmington NC) 1 July 1898 July 1, 1898
Greensboro Record: A divorce was granted E L Gilmer from his wife, Maie Gilmer,
this morning in the superior court in short order, the whole proceeding
occupying only a few minutes. The grounds charged were desertion of the husband
by the wife, it being shown that she had not lived with him for two years. There
was no opposition to the granting of the decree. [This is the scandal of some
years ago - Colonel Keogh's daughter. The Messenger.]
