Smith, leaving an affectionate wife to mourn her loss. February 18, 1839 Marriages: Married in this place, on Wednesday last, by the Rev. Mr. Paisley, Mr. John L. Cilley, of New York, to Miss Martha Moring, of this place. In Caswell county, lately, Mr. C. V. Lanier, of Danville, Va., to Miss Isabella M. Jeffreys, daughter of James W. Jeffreys. Deaths: Died in this place on the 28th ult., Mrs. Thankful Ann Hyatt, in the 19th year of her age, and in the confident and joyful hope of a blissful immortality. Departed this life, the 16th ult., after a lingering illness of nearly seven months, Mr. Daniel Closs. The deceased was a native of Ireland; emigrated to this country at a early period of life; was married to Miss Lucy Wals, of Philadelphia. He died in the 75th year of his age. February 27, 1839 Deaths: Died lately, in Rockingham county, Martha Wade, consort of Col. Wade, and daughter of Mr. Alexander Martin. In this county, on the 26th inst., David McAdoo, an aged and highly respectable citizen. In Davidson county, on Thursday, the 14th instant, mr. Casper. Bringle, aged 88 years. Mr. B. was the oldest man in the county, and, while living universally beloved by his neighbors-He was the father of 8 children, and when he died had 58 grandchildren, and 59 great-grandchildren. March 6, 1839 Deaths: Died in this county, on the 2nd inst., Francis Bell, aged about 60 years. March 20, 1839 Marriages: Married in this place on Tuesday evening the 12th inst., by the Rev. Peter Doub, Mr. Solomon Hopkins (late of Pennsylvania) to Miss Esther Ann McGee. In this county, recently, Mr. Calvin N. McAdoo to Miss Isabella McConnell, daughter of Co. Walter McConnell. In Randolph county, on the 3rd inst., by John Hale, Esq., Matthew Ward, Esq., to Miss Martha Andrew. Deaths: Died at the residence of Col. James Denny, in this county, of pneumonia, on the 18th inst., Mrs. Nancy Donnell, relict of William Donnell, in the 83rd year of her age. In Buchanan county, Missouri, on Sunday the 20th ult., Mr. John S. Donnell, merchant of this county. April 3, 1839 Marriages: Married on the 4th ult., in Orange county, Mr. Christian Whitsel, to Miss Mary Riley. In the same county, on the 7th ult., Mr. William Edwards, to Miss Eliza Ann Collins. In the same county, on the 7th ult., Mr. Isaac Rhew, aged 75 years to Miss mary Haughton, aged 19. In this same county, on the 27th ult., Mr. James Gilmer, to Miss Nancy Ann Smith, daughter of Eli Smith, Esq. In this county, on the 28th ult., by the Rev. Eli Caruthers, mr. Benton Tatum, to Miss Martha Michaux. At the clerk's office, in this town, on the 26th ult., Mr. Johnson Watson to Miss Nancy Andrews. Deaths: Died in Randolph county, suddenly (dropped instantaneously lifeless) on the 16th ult., Mrs. Mary Hill, consort of Samuel Hill. The deceased as a lady of uncommon intelligence and a pious Member of the Society of Friends. April 10, 1839 Deaths: Died on the 11th ult, at the residence of her brother-in-law, about 3 miles from Hillsborough, Illinois Eleanor McLean, daughter of Mr. Joseph McLean, aged 34 years. In this place on Monday morning last, Mr. William Wallace, an aged and respectable citizen. April 6, 1839 Deaths: Died recently, in this county, Albert Whitehart, of bleeding at the nose. April 30, 1839 Marriages: Married in this county, on Tuesday evening, the 23 inst., by the Rev. Eli W. Caruthers, Mr. Hamilton Gray to Miss Mary Wiley, daughter of Shannon Wiley. May 7, 1839 Marriages: Married in this county, on the 30th ult., by the Rev. Eli W. Caruthers, Mr. John Caruthers, to Miss Elizabeth Tatum, daughter of the Rev. Henry Tatum. In Madison, on Tuesday evening the 30th ult., by the Rev. Thompson Bird, Dr. James E. Staples to Miss Ruth M. Scales, daughter of Randal D. Scales, Esq., all of that place. Deaths: Died in Randolph county, on the 30th ult., Mr. Reuben Lamb, after a short illness of two or three days only. May 14, 1839 Marriages: Married in Johnson county, N. C. on Tuesday evening last, Mr. William E. Edwards, of Guilford, to Miss Amanda M. Jones, of Johnston. May 21, 1839 Marriages: Married, near Madison, on Thursday evening the 9th inst., by the Rev. Thompson Bird, Mr. Alexander M. Searcy, to Miss Susan D. Dalton, youngest daughter of the late Nicholas Dalton, Esq., deceased. In Montgomery county, Ia., on the 4th ult., Mr. Henry Haywood to Miss Martha Sherwood, daughter of Benjamin Sherwood, Esq., formerly of Davidson county, N. C. May 28, 1839 Marriages: Married, suddenly, in this town, on Tuesday the 21st inst., by J. Parker, Esq., Mr. Thomas Ozment, to Miss Huldah Gamble. June 18, 1839 Deaths: Died in this place, on Wednesday last, Nancy Gilbreath. At the Indian Springs in Georgia, Dr. James Patrick, of Macon, Ga., a native of Rockingham county, in this State. July 2, 1839 Deaths: Died in this place on Saturday last, Mary Rebecca, aged about 9 years, daughter of the Rev. Mr. Blake of Raleigh. July 9, 1939 Marriages: Married quite unexpectedly, on the 4th inst., at 11 o'clock P. M. by Joel Boon, Esq., Mr. Wesley Aldridge to Miss Susan Price, all of Orange-This is an equal match-both parties are just 18 years old-very handsome-tolerably industrious-and as to wealth, they are precisely equal. July 16, 1839 Deaths: Died in Washington City, on the 26th ult., in the 79th year of her age, after a painful illness of several months duration, Mrs. Winfred Gales, consort of Joseph Gales, Esq., of this city, (late of North Carolina). August 6, 1839 Marriages: Married on Tuesday the 30th July, by the Rev. Mr. Paisley, Mr. Allen Denny of Missouri, to Miss Mary M. Gilmer, daughter of Robert S. Gilmer, Esq., of this county. In Rockingham, on the 19th ult., by the Rev. Mr. Thompson, Mr. Wilson W. Weatherly to Miss Rachel Caffey, daughter of Robert Caffey. Deaths: Died at the residence of John Perdue, a few miles from this place, on Tuesday the 30th ult., Samuel Mitchel, Jr. The deceased had lingered long under consumption. In Randolph county, on the 1st ult., John W. L. Rush, aged about 6 years. August 20, 1839 Marriages: Married on the 15th inst., by the Rev. William Paisley, Mr. John Strader, to Miss Ann Hamilton, all of this county. In Randolph county on the 14th inst., by the Rev. Alfred Norman, Mr. John Smith Blair, to Miss Eliza Johnson, all in favor of Fisher's election. August 27, 1839 Marriages: Married in Madison, N. C., on Thursday the 22nd inst., by the Rev. D. Nicholson, Mr. Eldred H. Smith, to Miss Matilda M., daughter of Pleasant Black, Esq. On the 13th inst., Mr. John T. W. Davis, of Caswell County, to Miss Elvira, daughter of John Vaughn, Esq., of Stokes County. Deaths: Died in this place, on the 20th inst., James M. Woodburn, in the 22 year of his age. September 3, 1839 Marriages: Married in this county, on the 29th of August, by the Rev. Eli W. Caruthers, Mr. David McLean, merchant of this place, to Miss Jane S., daughter of Mr. John Paisley. In Madison on the evening of the same by the Rev. Eli W. Caruthers, Mr. D.A. Gillaspie, of this county, to Miss Matilda F. Webster, of the former place. In Davidson county, on the 22nd ult., by the Rev. Joshua Bethel, the Rev. Thomas Jones, of the N. C. Conference, to Miss Lucy, daughter of Mr. Jacob Brummel. September 17, 1839 Marriages: Married in Rowan County, on the 11th inst., by the Rev. Thales McDonald, Rev. Thomas W. Campbell, of the Methodist Episcopal Church, to Miss Elizabeth Allen. October 15, 1839 Marriages: Married in Randolph county, on the 10th inst., by the Rev. Mr. McDonald, Mr. Thomas G. Wilson, of Virginia, to Miss Margaret Claudia, daughter of the late William Hogan, dec'd. In this vicinity, on the 8th inst., by the Rev. Wm. Paisley, Mr. Henry Soots, to Miss Elphey Selina Wiley. October 22, 1839 Deaths: Died at Roxboro, Person county, on the 5th instant, Duncan Rose, Esq., aged nearly 70 years. October 29, 1839 Deaths: Died at his residence in this county on the 24th inst., Thomas Green, a native of Ireland. He left his native county in his 17th year; served several campaigns in the Revolutionary War, was a kind parent, a good neighbor, and a highly respectable citizen. He died in his 84th year. On Monday evening last, aged twenty-seven years, Mr. Leroy Rice, of this place. November 5, 1839 Marriages: Married in this county on the 31st ult., by the Rev. Eli W. Caruthers, Mr. Isaac Cook to Miss Hannah E. Woodburn. Deaths: On the 30th last month, of a lingering illness, at the residence of Michael Holt., Esq., in Orange county, his consort Mrs. Rachel Holt, in the sixty second year of her aged. In the death of this excellent woman society has sustained a loss which cannot be easily repaired. November 12, 1839 Marriages: Married on Thursday the 5th inst., by the Rev. W. B. Nicholson, Dr. James H. May, to Miss Frances T. Ellington, all of Wentworth, N. C. Deaths: Died in this county, on Friday, the 8th inst, William Dicks, a respected citizen and member of the society of Friends-The deceased was in his usual health until the morning previous to his death, when he was found to be speechless in his bed, in which state he remained till he died. In Randolph county, on Sunday morning last, Esther Lamb, consort of Mordecai Lamb. In this county recently, a daughter of Mr. Geo. Hendricks, very suddenly. In this county, on the 10th inst., Laura Ann E. Brittain, daughter of Asa G. Brittain, granddaughter to Rev. Henry Tatum-aged 10 years 3 months and 12 days. Miss Melinda Stanton, of Randolph county, N. C. fell dead from her chair on the 11th instant. She was sixteen years of age, and apparently in good health. November 19, 1839 Marriages: Married in this place, on Thursday evening last, by the Rev. Wm. Closs, Mr. Robert Mitchell to Mrs. Elizabeth Dare. Deaths: Died in this town, on Sunday morning, after a lingering illness, John Carroll. November 26, 1839 Marriages: Married in Bibb county, Georgia, on the 3rd inst., Maj. Claiborne Wall, formerly of Wentworth, N. C. to Miss America Grace, daughter of Maj. Solomon Grace, dec'd. Deaths: Died on the 6th inst., on Pee Dee river, 75 miles (by land) below S. C. David B. Mendenhall, son of Nathan Mendenhall, of this county. Deceased was a steam engineer; had served an apprenticeship with Reeder & Sons, Baltimore, and had only been in business in S. C. about a month when he was attacked with bilious congestive fever which proved fatal. December 10, 1839 Marriages: Married in this county, on Thursday evening last, by the Rev. Eli W. Caruthers, Mr. Joseph Shelton to Miss Nancy Jane Gillaspie. In this town on the 4th inst., Mr. James Starrot to Miss Laura Ann Tyre. Deaths: Died in this place on the 27th, Nov., Martha Elizabeth, infant daughter of G. C. and Catharine Townsend--aged 7 weeks and 2 days. In this place on the 7th inst., after a severe and protracted attack of the croup, Daniel W. Gantley, infant son of James and Sarah B. Sloan-aged about 3 years. In Cabarrus county, on the 5th inst., of bilious pneumonia, Martha Townsend, consort of Mr. Aaron Townsend-aged 66 years. The deceased had been for 48 years an exemplary member of the Presbyterian church. December 24, 1839 Marriages: Married in this county, recently by John Caldwell, Esq., Mr. Zephaniah Spruill to Miss Eleanor Russell. December 31, 1839 Marriages: Married on Thursday the 26th, in this county, by James Brannock, Esq., Mr. William McClintock to Miss Sarah, daughter of Martin Weatherly Deaths: Died in this town on the 24th inst., Mrs. Eleanor Clark at an advanced age.
